I hope you'll join in to the many educational, networking, and enjoyable activities of the East Tennessee Section of AIChE.
The East Tennessee Local Section has contributed to the profession of chemical engineering for eight decades. Our area is in the extreme eastern part of the state near the...
border with Virginia and North Carolina. As discussed in the local section history, our section was founded and is largely driven by employees of Eastman Chemical Company, which is the 10th largest chemical company in the U.S. and has over 500 chemical engineers at its headquarters in Kingsport, Tennessee. Additioally, many of our members work for other local employers as well including BWXT Nuclear Fuel Services (NFS) in Erwin, Tennessee, Domtar Kingsport Packaging Mill, and BAE Systems (Holston Army Ammunition Plant) in Kingsport.
Our section has monthly programs (with the exception of July and December). Most Monthly Programs are held at Noon and are in a Hybrid(In-Person/Microsoft Teams) or Virtiual Only (Microsoft Teams) Format. Also, there are occasional plant tours and evening socials as well. The local section offers a review course for the professional engineer¡¯s exam and sponsors continuing education classes as well.
"Certainly," the Doctor responded, "these things come here in cans, and a great many other things as well. They serve to make life endurable to an American in a distant land like Japan, and they also serve to keep him patriotic by constantly reminding him of home. The General turned an arch smile of perplexity upon his chief-of-staff. "I don't think we're quite up to that line of perpetual snow, Walter, are we?" looking-glasses in the room. Jeff drew a bulky, registered envelope from his coat, displayed the registration stamps and marks, and his name and address typed on the envelope. Drawing out a half dozen hand written sheets in a large masculine ¡°fist,¡± he showed the signature of Atley Everdail at the end. Turning away, back to his view, in a dark dress, a woman who had been at the extreme after rail was racing out of sight behind the cabin. Such Apaches as had not gone back on the war-path returned to the States with the troops; but there were five months more of the outrages of Geronimo and his kind. Then in the summer of the year another man, more fortunate and better fitted to deal with it all, perhaps,¡ªwith the tangle of lies and deceptions, cross purposes and trickery,¡ªsucceeded where Crook had failed and had been relieved of a task that was beyond him. Geronimo was captured, and was hurried off to a Florida prison with his band, as far as they well could be from the reservation they had refused to accept. And with them were sent other Indians, who had been the friends and helpers of the government for years, and who had run great risks to help or to obtain peace. But the memory and gratitude of governments is become a proverb. The southwest settled down to enjoy its safety. The troops rested upon the laurels they had won, the superseded general went on with his work in another field far away to the north. The new general, the saviour of the land, was heaped[Pg 305] with honor and praise, and the path of civilization was laid clear. "It must be very nice, Maria," said Arabella, with a show of cordiality, but which Maria interpreted as an attempt to patronize, "to have your brother back home with you again." "Stand by the Squire, men¡ªwe'll all gain by it." "Oh, I justabout love baby girls. They're so sweet¡ªand all their dresses and that.... Besides we don't want two boys." HoMEÒ˺ìÔºÊ×Ò³´óÏ㽶
